Land 1 is the first area visited by the player character in Black & White.
It's mainly a tutorial island and offers little challenge to complete. In it, the player learns camera controls, usage of the action button, creatures, creature commands, and more.
The player is first guided by their conscience, then Sable, and finally the creature guide.
Land 1 only has two villages: one is Norse, the other is Aztec.

Trivia[]
- The creature help feature is disabled by the gold story scripts on this land, regardless of the setting of the option. Starting and exitting a skirmish game will enable it until the next gold story scroll is activated.
- The Aztec villagers will not initially breed on their own, and if the player waits a long time before doing the guide challenges, they can die out. The village can be repopulated with Norse missionary disciples.
- If the population of the Aztec village gets high enough, either through missionaries, breeding, or immigration, the villagers have 5 preplanned abodes they will build, probably harvesting trees from the village to do so.
- Both villages also have a wonder as a planned "abode", but they never build it.
- Before activating The Creature's Learning - Part 2 challenge, if the belief needed to convert the Aztec village gets below 201 it will revert to 300. If the player does manage to convert the village, the fireworks will go off, but the village will immediately revert to neutral with 300 belief needed. If the creature tutorials are skipped when starting a new game, the Aztec village will be stuck in this unconvertable state.
- Land 1 has the second lowest number of usable villages of the game, with only two (after the God's Playground, with only one).
- The lone houses around the island are uninhabitable villages; the two Celtic abodes at the Hermit and quarry, the Japanese abode at the Throwing Stones pillar, the Celtic abode next to the mushroom circle, and the Norse abode near the Singing Stones circle. If scaffolds were available, the player could make Celtic and Japanese villages using these.
- Land 1 has a giant white drawing shaped like a man. This style of motif is known as a geoglyph, a notable example is the Nazca Lines in Peru. It has no known purpose. This drawing is close to the Aztec village.
- Land 1 has a vaguely similar shape to real world South America, where Peru is.
- There are 2 lilac mushrooms in the mushroom circle between the Throwing Stones pillar and the Singing Stones circle.
- There are toadstools in the valley where the player chooses their creature. These can be put through the vortex and used to poison food in enemy villages on Land 2 immediately without waiting for the Plague challenge.
